Introduction to Sea Swimming and Dipping

A one-off 1.5 hour session that will give you a solid grounding on starting to swim in the sea. Once completed you can join our social swim pod and take part in social swims and organised Wave 23 swims.

Join us on an introduction to sea swimming and dipping session for people who want to get started in the water. This is an informative session covering pre-swim preparation, equipment, environmental considerations and sea/weather conditions.

This is open to all swimmers, whether you’re interested in dips or distance, wetsuits or ‘skins’ (though you must be at least a recreational swimmer – minimum requirement).

The session will take place on the beach at Southbourne (near Bistro on the Beach) and lasts around an hour and a half. This will include a one hour talk about kit, sea/environment, risks, safe swimming and a Q&A session, then a short swim/dip and all-important cake! There will be up to 5 participants per coach at the session.

Please dress appropriately for the beach, including warm layers for after the short swim/dip (inc gloves and a woolly hat!). For the swim, either costumes or wetsuits – your preference. Wetsuit boots/socks and neoprene gloves recommended at this time.

Next steps: upon booking a spot on the course, your coach will be in touch with further information plus payment details. You must complete our registration form – you can find a link to this on the booking confirmation page.

The session includes a free Wave 23 swimming hat and cake. Following the session, you can join our Wave 23 social swim pod Facebook group, for arranging social swims, other Wave 23 organised swims and all things sea swimming!

In the case of inclement weather, this session will be postponed.
